Where to sleep for less
Budget travellers stay in Lefkada town, where rooms typically cost about €50–90 a double in high season and less in June and September. It has the bus station and restaurants, and every beach is within an hour's drive. There are few hostels, so studios with kitchens are the best value.
Getting around cheaply
A shared rental car or scooter is the easiest and, for two people, cheapest way to reach the west-coast beaches. KTEL buses connect Lefkada town with Nydri, Vasiliki and Agios Nikitas in summer. From Aktion airport, there is no regular bus, so share a taxi (about €35–45) or arrange a transfer. KTEL coaches run to Athens in about 5 hours.

- Shop at supermarkets in town before driving to the far west, where shops are few.
- Order house wine by the carafe.
- Book boat trips directly at Nydri's quay rather than through hotel agents.
- Avoid the week around 15 August, when prices peak.
