Which is better for nightlife?

Budapest. Its ruin bars in District VII and summer party nights at the baths make it a favourite for groups of friends. Vienna's nightlife is quieter, focused on wine taverns, cocktail bars and concerts. If you want late nights, choose Budapest.

When is the best time to visit?

For Budapest, June, July and October are good, with July around 29°C. Vienna is best in summer, around 28°C in July. December brings Christmas markets to both cities, while winters are cold, around 5°C. Spring and autumn are calmer and cheaper, and Budapest's outdoor baths stay open in winter, which is a memorable experience in steaming water.

How do I travel between Budapest and Vienna?

Take the train. It takes about 2 h 40 between Vienna Hauptbahnhof and Budapest Keleti, with frequent departures. Buses take a similar time, while flying makes no sense for this distance. In summer, a hydrofoil on the Danube sometimes runs; check current schedules.
