How many days in Boracay? 4 days of White Beach, island hopping and sunset sailing
By Tony Panopoulos · travel-agency planner in Greece · Updated
Boracay is a small island, about 7 km long, off the north-west tip of Panay in the central Philippines. Its White Beach runs for roughly 4 km of fine, powdery sand on the west coast, facing the sunset. In 2018, the government closed the island for six months to clean it up, and new rules still apply: limited visitor numbers, accredited hotels only, and no drinking or smoking on the beach. Give it four days: one for White Beach, one for island hopping, one for the quieter beaches and one for water sports or a day trip.
Short answer
Three days covers White Beach, a boat trip and Puka Shell Beach. A fourth adds kitesurfing or diving, a cliff-diving trip to Ariel's Point, or simply more time on the sand.
The 4-day plan, day by day
Day 1: White Beach, Willy's Rock and a paraw sunset
Morning. Walk White Beach from Station 1 in the north, where the sand is widest, to Station 3 in the south, about 45-60 minutes on foot. At Station 1, wade out at low tide to Willy's Rock, a volcanic outcrop with a small statue of the Virgin Mary.
Afternoon. Rest in the shade near Station 2 and browse D'Mall, the open-air shopping area behind the beach. The beach path is lined with restaurants, dive shops and stalls selling water and fruit shakes for about ₱120-200.
Evening. Book a paraw sailing trip at sunset: a traditional outrigger sailboat with nets slung between its arms, roughly ₱2,000-3,500 per boat for about an hour, shared by a small group. Afterwards, have dinner on the beach path; a main at a mid-range restaurant costs ₱400-800.
Rules on the island are enforced: no smoking, no drinking alcohol and no building large sandcastles on the beach itself. Restaurants set tables back from the shoreline after the cleanup.
Day 2: Island hopping: Crystal Cove, Crocodile and Magic Island
Morning. Join an island-hopping tour from White Beach (about ₱1,500-2,500 per person shared, or ₱5,000-8,000 for a private boat). A common route visits Crystal Cove Island, with caves and lookouts (a separate entrance fee of a few hundred pesos), and Crocodile Island, whose outline looks like a crocodile from the water, for snorkelling over coral.
Afternoon. Many tours stop at Magic Island, with cliff-jumping platforms of different heights, and at Puka Shell Beach for a swim. Lunch is usually grilled seafood and rice on board or on a beach.
Evening. Go to D'Talipapa, the seafood market behind Station 2, choose fresh fish, prawns or crabs, and pay a nearby restaurant to cook them ("paluto"), typically ₱150-300 per dish for cooking plus the price of the seafood.
Bring reef-safe sunscreen and water shoes. Seas can be choppy from June to October; boats may change their route or cancel trips for safety.
Day 3: Puka Shell Beach, Mount Luho and Diniwid
Morning. Take an e-trike (about ₱150-250) to Puka Shell Beach (Yapak) in the north, a quieter beach with coarser sand and stronger waves than White Beach, and few buildings. Bring snacks and water, as there are only small stalls.
Afternoon. Go to Mount Luho, the island's highest point, a viewpoint with an entrance fee of around ₱100-150, for a panorama over the whole island. Then head to Diniwid Beach, a small cove just north of Station 1, reached by a cliffside path; it is calm and good for swimming.
Evening. Walk back along the cliff path at sunset to Station 1, then have cocktails at the bars along White Beach (₱250-450 a drink). On weekends, some bars around Station 2 host live music until late.
Puka Shell Beach was known for the small puka shells once found there. Taking shells or coral from the island is not allowed, and many have already been removed.
Day 4: Bulabog: kitesurfing, diving or Ariel's Point
Morning. Cross to Bulabog Beach on the east coast, a 10-minute walk from D'Mall. From roughly November to April, when the amihan north-east wind blows, it is one of Asia's main kitesurfing spots; a beginner lesson costs from about ₱3,000-4,000 an hour. In calmer months, try paddleboarding or windsurfing.
Afternoon. Divers can join a two-dive trip to sites such as Crocodile Island or Yapak wall, roughly ₱3,500-5,000 with gear. For adrenaline, join a day trip to Ariel's Point, a cliff-diving spot on the Panay coast, about an hour by boat, with jumps of up to about 15 metres, lunch and drinks included (around ₱3,000-4,000).
Evening. On your last night, watch the sunset from the beach at Station 1, then eat Filipino dishes such as adobo, sinigang (sour tamarind soup) and lechon at a local restaurant away from the beachfront, where prices are lower.
Kite and wind conditions change by season: from June to October, the habagat south-west wind makes White Beach rougher and Bulabog calmer, and some activities switch sides of the island.
Only have 3 days?
With 3 days, combine White Beach and Puka Shell Beach on one day, keep the island-hopping day, and choose either water sports or Ariel's Point for the third.
Got extra days?
A 5th day suits a slow morning and a spa treatment, or a trip to Panay: the Kalibo area is known for the Ati-Atihan festival in January. Many travellers continue to Palawan or Cebu by flight from Caticlan or Kalibo.

Getting around
Fly to Caticlan (Godofredo P. Ramos Airport), about 10 minutes from the jetty port, or to Kalibo, about 1.5-2 hours by van. From Caticlan Jetty Port, boats cross to Boracay in about 15 minutes; expect to pay a terminal fee, an environmental fee and the boat fare (together roughly ₱400-600; prices change). You will need a confirmed booking at an accredited hotel. On the island, e-trikes (electric tricycles) and shared e-jeeps run along the main road; short rides cost about ₱20-50 per person shared or ₱150-250 for a private trike. White Beach itself is easy to walk.
What to eat in Boracay
Boracay has food from all over the world, but try Filipino dishes too: chicken inasal (grilled marinated chicken), pork adobo, sinigang, kinilaw (raw fish in vinegar and calamansi) and halo-halo, a shaved-ice dessert with fruit and beans. Fresh mango shakes cost ₱120-200. At D'Talipapa, buy seafood and have it cooked next door. A Filipino meal in a local eatery costs ₱200-400; a beachfront dinner ₱700-1,500. Fresh calamansi juice is everywhere. Drink bottled or filtered water.
Best time to visit
November to May is the dry season, with the calmest seas on White Beach; the busiest months are December to April, especially Christmas, Chinese New Year and Holy Week, when prices peak. June to October is the wet season, with heavier rain, typhoon risk and rougher water on White Beach, but lower prices. Temperatures stay around 27-32°C all year.

Common questions
Do I need a hotel booking to enter Boracay?
Yes. Since the 2018 rehabilitation, visitors must show a confirmed booking at a hotel accredited by the Department of Tourism, usually at the Caticlan port or when buying transfer tickets. Check that your hotel is accredited before paying; most booking platforms list approved properties, but it is worth confirming directly with the hotel.
Caticlan or Kalibo airport?
Caticlan is much closer, about 10 minutes from the jetty, but flights are smaller and fares are often higher. Kalibo receives larger planes and some international flights, but the van transfer adds about 1.5-2 hours. If you fly via Manila, Caticlan usually saves time; book transfers that include the boat and port fees.
Is Boracay crowded?
White Beach can be busy around Station 2, especially from December to April and on Philippine holidays. Visitor numbers are capped, so it is calmer than before 2018. For quieter sand, go to Station 1 early in the morning, Diniwid Beach or Puka Shell Beach, or visit in the wet season.
Can you swim in Boracay all year?
Usually, but conditions change. From November to May, White Beach is calm and clear. From June to October, the south-west habagat wind can bring waves and stronger currents to White Beach, while Bulabog on the east side becomes calmer. Follow lifeguard flags and local advice, and avoid swimming after heavy rain.
