Is Nafpaktos expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer
Nafpaktos is good value: as a town that lives from Greek weekend visitors rather than mass tourism, it is cheaper than the islands and most of the coast near Athens. Expect about €55 a day per person on a tight budget, about €125 mid-range and €220 or more for comfort. The money goes on rooms, food and a hire car for day trips.

Where the money goes
Rooms take the biggest share: studios near Gribovo start at about €45–75 a night, the old town and Psani seafront are about €70–130, and boutique hotels on the castle slope are €130–250. Food is the next cost, but harbour tavernas and coffee are reasonably priced. Sightseeing in town is mostly free — the castle, harbour and beaches — so the extra spend comes from a hire car for Mesolongi, Galaxidi or the mountains, plus the bridge toll if you cross to Patras.
When it is cheaper
Weekdays are usually cheaper than Friday and Saturday nights, when visitors arrive from Patras and Athens. Outside July and August rates are often lower, and the town stays open all year.
How to spend less
- Visit on weekdays: harbour tables are easier to get and rooms are often cheaper.
- You do not need to cross the Rio-Antirrio bridge unless you go to Patras; view it from Antirrio and save the toll.
- Order avgotaracho in small portions; it is sold at a high price per kilo.
- Walk to the castle instead of driving, and enjoy the harbour, Psani and Gribovo for free.
- Take the KTEL bus from Athens and hire a car only for the excursion days.
- Choose fried small fish and salads over large fish sold by the kilo.
