Is Folegandros expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer
Folegandros is mid-priced for the Cyclades: cheaper than Santorini or Mykonos, but rooms in Chora are pricey in July and August because supply is small. A budget traveller needs about €80 a day, mid-range about €165 and comfort about €355 per person. Rooms take most of the money; food is moderate.

Where the money goes
Accommodation is the biggest cost, from €50–90 at Karavostasis or the Livadi campsite to €220–500 at cliff-edge hotels near Chora, plus Greece's per-room, per-night climate resilience fee. The ferry from Piraeus is a separate expense. On the island, buses, the Katergo boat and tavernas are fair value; fish is often expensive because there are few boats, so ask the price per kilo.
When it is cheaper
Late May, early June and September are cheaper than July and August, often by a quarter or more for rooms. From November to April most hotels close.
How to spend less
- Stay at Karavostasis or the Livadi campsite and take the bus up to Chora for the evening.
- Use the island buses, timed with ferries, instead of renting for the whole stay.
- Ask the price per kilo before ordering fish.
- Bring your own water and snacks to Katergo and Agios Georgios, which have no facilities.
- Order matsata or kalasouna, local dishes that are filling and fairly priced.
- Book rooms early for July and August, when the small supply runs out.
