Where to sleep for less
Budget travellers stay at Karavostasis, the port, or the Livadi campsite, from about €50–90 a room, and take the bus up to Chora in the evening.
Getting around cheaply
Island buses cost about €2 and are timed with ferries. Walk to Livadi, Vitsentzou and Latinaki from the port. Ferries from Piraeus take about 4–7 hours; slower boats are usually cheaper. There is no airport.

More ways to save

- Walk to Katergo from Livadi (about 45 minutes) instead of taking the boat.
- Share a scooter for Ano Meria and the west.
- Buy thyme honey and capers at village shops rather than in Chora's boutiques.
- Eat a late lunch and a lighter dinner in the squares.
- Visit in June or September for warm water and lower room prices.
