Seville on a budget: how to do it well
Short answer
Yes: Seville is one of the best-value cities in Western Europe, with cheap tapas, a walkable centre and several free landmarks. A realistic minimum is about €80 a day per person (bed €40, food €20, sights €15, transport €2), less in a hostel dorm.

Free things to do
- Plaza de España and its tiled alcoves for each Spanish province
- Parque de María Luisa, next to Plaza de España
- Wandering the lanes and squares of the Barrio de Santa Cruz
- Crossing the Puente de Isabel II to Triana and the Calle Betis riverside
- The Mercado de Triana (browsing is free) and the ceramics shops of Triana
- The riverside walk along the Guadalquivir from the Torre del Oro (outside) to the Puente de Triana
Cheap eats
- Montadito de pringá (slow-cooked meat sandwich): roughly €2.50–3.50
- Espinacas con garbanzos (spinach with chickpeas): roughly €3–4 a tapa
- Salmorejo: roughly €3–4.50 a tapa
- Churros with chocolate for breakfast: roughly €3–5
- Fried fish in a paper cone from a freiduría: sold by weight, usually a few euros a portion
Where to sleep for less
Budget travellers stay in hostels in Santa Cruz, El Arenal, the Alameda and the Macarena, where dorm beds typically cost about €20–40 a night, more in spring. Triana, across the river, often has cheaper private rooms within walking distance of the centre.
Getting around cheaply
Walk: the historic centre is compact and flat. For longer distances, use Tussam buses (about €1.40 a single, cheaper with a travel card), the Metrocentro tram or the metro. From the airport, the EA bus reaches the centre in about 35 minutes for around €4–5.
A sample budget day
- Morning: churros with chocolate (about €4), then a walk through Santa Cruz and around the Cathedral (outside)
- Lunch: three tapas and a caña at the bar (about €12)
- Afternoon: Plaza de España and Parque de María Luisa (free), then a siesta in summer
- Evening: cross to Triana for tapas by the river (about €10) and the sunset from the Puente de Isabel II; dorm bed about €25
- Total: about €50 with a dorm bed; about €80 sharing a budget double and adding one paid sight
More ways to save
- Order 'tapas' rather than 'raciones': portions are smaller and you can try more for less.
- Buy picnic food at the Mercado de Triana or the market on Calle Feria and eat in the shade of Parque de María Luisa.
- See Las Setas from the plaza below for free, or go up at sunset only if the view is worth about €15 to you.
- Use a free walking tour (tip-based) for the history of Santa Cruz and the Jewish quarter.
- Visit in winter: highs of about 16–19°C, oranges on the trees and low room prices.
- Ask whether bread and olives are included before eating them.
