Lesbos on a budget: how to do it well
Short answer
Lesbos is easy on a budget: a careful day costs about €65 per person (bed €25, food €20, sights €5, transport €15). Staying in Mytilene and sharing a car keeps it there.

Where to sleep for less
Budget travellers stay in Mytilene, where rooms cost about €40–70 a double (roughly €20–35 each when sharing). In the west, Sigri and Skala Eresou have simple rooms in a similar range.
Getting around cheaply
KTEL buses connect Mytilene with the main villages a few times a day. A shared rental car (about €30–55 a day) is the cheapest way to see the island. The airport is about 8 km from Mytilene.
A sample budget day

More ways to save
- Visit in May or June for birdwatching, warm weather and lower prices.
- Group the sights by area: east and south from Mytilene, north and west from Molyvos.
- Fill up with fuel before heading west, where stations are fewer.
- Bring a picnic to the Petrified Forest and Sigri.
- Check museum opening days before long drives.
- Use KTEL buses for the Mytilene–Molyvos route if you are not driving every day.
