Season by season
Spring (Mar–May)
Highs rise from about 17°C in March to 24°C in May, with 8–9 rainy days a month; the hills are green and the waterfalls at Akchour are full.
Summer (Jun–Aug)
June is about 28°C; July and August reach about 34–35°C with almost no rain. Akchour's pools are good for swimming, but the town is at its busiest.
Autumn (Sep–Nov)
September and October are warm (about 26–29°C) and fairly dry; November drops to about 18°C with rain returning.
Winter (Dec–Feb)
Highs around 14–16°C, lows of 5–7°C, and roughly 7–10 rainy days a month; snow is possible on the peaks and many riads are cold, but the town is quiet.
Events worth planning around
- Ramadan (dates move about 11 days earlier each year): many cafes close by day and the town comes alive after sunset
- Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha (dates follow the Islamic calendar): busy with domestic visitors and some shops close
When to avoid
Avoid December to February if you dislike cold, damp riads and rain. July, August and Moroccan holiday weekends bring the biggest crowds and fuller riads.
