Best time to visit Cancun: month by month
Short answer
December to April is the best time: the dry season, with highs of 27-29°C and the fewest rainy days, but also peak prices and crowds. May to October is hotter and more humid (30-31°C), with sargassum from about May to August and hurricane season from June to November, highest from August to October.

Season by season
Spring (Mar–May)
Dry and warm, with highs of 28-30°C and the fewest rainy days in April (about 8); spring break and Easter bring crowds and higher prices.
Summer (Jun–Aug)
Hot and humid, highs of 30-31°C and 16-19 rainy days a month, often short storms; sargassum and the start of hurricane season.
Autumn (Sep–Nov)
Highs of 28-31°C, about 15-18 rainy days a month and the peak hurricane risk in September and October; the cheapest time.
Winter (Dec–Feb)
The most pleasant weather, with highs of 26-27°C and lows of 22-23°C, but the busiest and most expensive months.
Events worth planning around
- Spring equinox at Chichén Itzá (around 20-21 March), when a serpent of light appears on El Castillo
- Whale-shark season off Isla Mujeres and Cancún, roughly June to September
- Day of the Dead, 1-2 November
- Cancún Carnival, usually in February or early March
When to avoid
September and October have the highest hurricane risk, and Christmas to New Year and Easter week are the most crowded and expensive.
