Short answer
May, June and September are the best months, with highs of about 18–25°C, green meadows and fewer crowds. July and August are warmest (highs around 24–26°C) and best for swimming, but also busiest and dearest. May to August are also the rainiest months, with frequent showers.

March and April are cool (highs 10–12°C); May warms to about 18°C, with lots of rain days but fresh green scenery.

When to avoid
Avoid July and August afternoons if you dislike crowds at the boats and Vintgar. From November to March, Vintgar Gorge is closed and the lake is too cold for swimming.
