Common questions
Is Cape Town or Victoria Falls cheaper?
Cape Town. Our mid-range estimate is about €181 per person per day there against €289 at Victoria Falls. Victoria Falls is a small resort town where lodges, park fees and activities such as rafting, helicopter flights and cruises are priced in US dollars and add up fast. Cape Town offers far more choice at every price level.
How do I get from Cape Town to Victoria Falls?
Fly. When a direct flight operates it takes about 2 h 30 to 3 hours; otherwise you connect through Johannesburg, and the journey takes most of a day. The two are about 1,900 km apart, so overland travel is not practical on a short trip. Check current schedules and visa rules for Zimbabwe or Zambia.
How many days do I need at Victoria Falls?
Two to three full days. One day covers the falls walk on the Zimbabwe side and a sunset cruise. A second day allows rafting, a gorge swing or a helicopter flight. Add a third for a day trip to Chobe National Park in Botswana or for visiting the Zambian side.
When is the best time to visit?
Our data puts October to April as best for Cape Town, its warm, dry summer, with January around 25°C. For Victoria Falls it is March to August, when the water volume is high after the rains; by October the falls are lower and temperatures reach about 36°C. March and April suit both.
