Is Cabo San Lucas or Cancun cheaper?
Cancun. Our mid-range estimate is about 4,400 MXN per person per day in Cancun against about 4,900 MXN in Cabo San Lucas. Cancun also has more competition among hotels and many cheaper places to eat downtown. Cabo is geared toward high-end resorts, which push average prices up.
Where can I swim safely?
Cancun, generally. Its Caribbean beaches have calmer water, although some Hotel Zone beaches have strong currents on windy days, so watch the flags. In Cabo, many Pacific-facing beaches have dangerous waves and undertow; swim at protected ones such as Medano Beach and check local warnings.
When is the best time to visit?
Cabo is best from about November to April, with dry, warm days around 25°C in January. Cancun is good from about December to April. Both are hot in summer, about 31 to 33°C in July. Hurricane season runs June to November on both coasts, with greatest risk from roughly August to October.
How do I get between Cabo San Lucas and Cancun?
Fly. The two are about 2,400 km apart, on opposite sides of Mexico. Direct flights between Los Cabos and Cancun take roughly 3 hours when scheduled; otherwise connect via Mexico City or another hub. Driving is not practical. Check current timetables.
