Common questions

Is Amsterdam or Copenhagen cheaper?

Amsterdam. Our mid-range estimate is about €219 per person per day in Amsterdam against about €281 in Copenhagen. Danish restaurant meals and drinks are notably expensive, while hotels are pricey in both. Street food at Reffen and Torvehallerne helps keep Copenhagen costs down.

Which is calmer?

Copenhagen. Amsterdam's centre gets very crowded, especially on weekends and in tulip season. Copenhagen has busy spots like Nyhavn and Tivoli, but most neighbourhoods feel relaxed, and even central streets empty out early in the evening. Cyclists, not tour groups, fill the roads. For a quiet trip with good food, choose Copenhagen.

When is the best time to visit?

June is excellent in both, with long days and temperatures around 21 to 22°C. Copenhagen is also good in September. Winter is cold and dark in both cities, around 4 to 7°C, though Tivoli's Christmas season brightens Copenhagen in December.

How do I get between Amsterdam and Copenhagen?

Fly; the flight is about 1 h 20 with several departures daily. Trains take around 11 to 12 hours with a change in Hamburg, which can be a scenic travel day if you have time. Check current timetables, as rail services and night trains change.
