Agra or Jaipur? An honest comparison
The short answer
Pick Agra if your trip is about the Taj Mahal and Mughal monuments; one or two days are enough. Pick Jaipur for a longer, more varied stay: hilltop forts, palaces, bazaars, Rajasthani food and the best shopping of the two. Jaipur is slightly cheaper on our numbers, about ₹6,400 a day mid-range against ₹7,000 in Agra, and most travellers do both on the Delhi–Agra–Jaipur circuit.
Agra: suits couples, families, first-timers and backpackers who want the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri in a short stay.
Jaipur: suits first-timers, friends and travellers wanting palace hotels, forts, bazaars and Rajasthani cooking over several days.
