Common questions
Is there a direct train from Berlin to Copenhagen?
Most journeys need one change, typically in Hamburg, and take about 7 hours. Since the Puttgarden–Rødby train ferry ended, trains go the long way via Flensburg and Jutland until the Fehmarn Belt tunnel opens. Timetables change often because of construction work, so check current connections on the Deutsche Bahn or DSB websites.
What is the fastest way?
Flying. Direct flights from BER to Copenhagen take about an hour, and Copenhagen airport is only around 15 minutes from the centre by metro. Counting the trip to BER, security and boarding, expect about 3½–4 hours door to door, roughly half the time of the train or coach.
What is the cheapest way?
Coaches via the Rostock–Gedser ferry are usually cheapest, often around €30–50 when booked ahead. Early-booked train fares and promotional flights can be close in price. Driving works out expensive for one person because of the car ferry, but can make sense for a group of three or four.
Do I need to book ahead?
Yes, for the best prices. Train saver fares, coach tickets and flights all rise as departure approaches, and summer weekends fill up. If you drive, booking the Rostock–Gedser ferry in advance is recommended in July and August. Flexible train tickets can be bought on the day but cost more.
