Why visit Foz do Iguacu?

Foz do Iguaçu is a city in the far west of Paraná state, Brazil, where Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay meet. It is the Brazilian base for visiting the Iguazú Falls, one of the largest waterfall systems in the world. The falls are shared between Iguaçu National Park in Brazil and Iguazu National Park in Argentina, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

On the Brazilian side, a single trail follows the canyon and gives wide panoramic views of the falls. It ends at a walkway that leads out over the water near the Devil's Throat, the largest and most powerful cascade. The Argentine side, reached by crossing the border, has longer upper and lower circuits and a walkway right to the edge of the Garganta del Diablo. Boat trips take visitors up the river and close to the falls, where you will get soaked. Near the park entrance, Parque das Aves is a bird park with toucans, macaws and other species from the Atlantic Forest. North of the city, the Itaipu Dam, built jointly with Paraguay, offers guided tours. At the Marco das Tres Fronteiras you can see all three countries at the meeting point of the Iguaçu and Paraná rivers.
