Why visit Dominica?

Dominica is a mountainous island nation in the Lesser Antilles, located between Guadeloupe and Martinique. Often called the Nature Island, it is covered in rainforest, rivers and volcanic features, with relatively few sandy beaches. The capital, Roseau, sits on the sheltered west coast.

Morne Trois Pitons National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, protects much of the island's interior. A demanding guided hike leads to the Boiling Lake, a flooded fumarole surrounded by steam. Trafalgar Falls and the Emerald Pool are shorter walks and among the most visited natural sites. Titou Gorge is a narrow canyon where visitors swim upstream to a small waterfall. At Champagne Reef, volcanic gas rises from the seabed in streams of bubbles, making it an unusual snorkelling spot. The Waitukubuli National Trail crosses the full length of the island in stages. In the northeast, the Kalinago Territory is home to the Indigenous Kalinago people, and a cultural village explains their traditions. Near Portsmouth, Cabrits National Park includes the restored Fort Shirley.
