Why visit Exuma?

Exuma is a district of the Bahamas made up of Great Exuma, Little Exuma and a long chain of small cays. The main town is George Town on Great Exuma, which has an international airport. The islands are known for turquoise shallow water, sandbars and quiet beaches.

Boat tours from Great Exuma and Staniel Cay visit Big Major Cay, home to the famous swimming pigs. Thunderball Grotto, near Staniel Cay, is a limestone cave with snorkelling inside, used as a filming location for the James Bond film Thunderball. At Compass Cay, visitors can swim with nurse sharks near the marina. The Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park protects a large area of islands, reefs and marine life in the northern cays. Allan's Cays are known for their endemic rock iguanas. On Little Exuma, Tropic of Cancer Beach sits close to the line of latitude that gives it its name. Conch salad and cracked conch are local favourites.
