How many days in Orlando? 5 days at Disney, Universal and the Space Coast

By Tony Panopoulos · travel-agency planner in Greece · Updated

Orlando is the theme park capital of the world, with four Walt Disney World parks, three Universal parks including the new Epic Universe (opened in 2025), water parks, and the Kennedy Space Center about an hour away. Five days is a realistic minimum: two days at Disney (Magic Kingdom and EPCOT or Hollywood Studios), two at Universal (with the Wizarding World of Harry Potter), and one at the Space Center. Plan ahead: tickets, ride reservations and dining all need booking, and the parks are huge.

Short answer

5 days is the sweet spot4 days is the minimum worth it

Four days covers two Disney parks and two Universal parks. The fifth adds the Kennedy Space Center or a rest day.

Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom, Orlando

The 5-day plan, day by day

Day 1: Magic Kingdom

Morning. Arrive at rope drop (opening) at Magic Kingdom and head first to the most popular rides, such as TRON Lightcycle / Run, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Space Mountain. Use Lightning Lane for skipping lines (extra cost).

Afternoon. Visit Pirates of the Caribbean, the Haunted Mansion, 'it's a small world' and the parade. Rest in the hotel at the hottest time if you are staying nearby.

Evening. Watch the fireworks over Cinderella Castle.

Buy tickets with date-based pricing early; prices are lower on quieter days.

Day 2: EPCOT or Hollywood Studios

Morning. At EPCOT, ride Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Test Track and Frozen Ever After. Or at Hollywood Studios, ride Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Slinky Dog Dash.

Afternoon. In EPCOT, walk around the World Showcase, with pavilions of 11 countries and their food. In Hollywood Studios, see Toy Story Land and the Tower of Terror.

Evening. Watch the EPCOT nighttime show over the lagoon, or Fantasmic! at Hollywood Studios.

The EPCOT festivals (Food & Wine, Flower & Garden) add extra food booths for much of the year.

Day 3: Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure

Morning. Use a park-to-park ticket to see both halves of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida and Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure, connected by the Hogwarts Express train. Ride Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure and Escape from Gringotts.

Afternoon. Ride the VelociCoaster in Jurassic Park, The Incredible Hulk Coaster, and Revenge of the Mummy.

Evening. Have dinner at Universal CityWalk.

Staying in certain Universal hotels gives early park admission and, in some, free Express passes.

Day 4: Epic Universe

Morning. Visit Universal Epic Universe, the newest park (opened in May 2025), with five worlds: Super Nintendo World, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Ministry of Magic, How to Train Your Dragon: Isle of Berk, Dark Universe and Celestial Park.

Afternoon. Ride Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge, and the Stardust Racers dual coaster.

Evening. Watch the evening show and lights in Celestial Park.

Epic Universe is very popular; tickets are date-specific and may sell out, so book early.

Day 5: Kennedy Space Center

Morning. Drive about 1 hour east to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex (about US$75-80): see the Space Shuttle Atlantis, the Saturn V rocket in the Apollo/Saturn V Center, and the Rocket Garden.

Afternoon. Take the bus tour to the launch pads and the huge Vehicle Assembly Building. If you are lucky, watch a rocket launch from the visitor complex or nearby beaches.

Evening. Relax at Cocoa Beach before returning to Orlando, or spend the evening at Disney Springs (free entry).

Check the launch schedule: SpaceX and other companies launch rockets from Cape Canaveral regularly.

Only have 4 days?

With 4 days, do Days 1 to 4.

Got extra days?

With more time, add Animal Kingdom with its Avatar land, a Disney water park, SeaWorld, LEGOLAND (about 1 hour), or the natural springs of Wekiwa and Blue Spring, where manatees gather in winter.

Getting around

Rent a car unless you stay at Disney and use its buses, boats, monorail and Skyliner. Orlando International Airport (MCO) is about 25-40 minutes from the parks; the Brightline high-speed train connects it with Miami. Parking at the parks costs about US$30-35 per day.

What to eat in Orlando

Theme park food is expensive (about US$15-25 for a quick meal). Try the food booths of the EPCOT World Showcase, Butterbeer in the Wizarding World, Dole Whip at Magic Kingdom, and character dining. Outside the parks, International Drive and Disney Springs have many restaurants. Bringing snacks and refillable water bottles helps.

Best time to visit

January to early March (except holidays) and late October to mid-November have smaller crowds and pleasant weather. Summer is hot, humid and stormy (afternoon thunderstorms), and busy with school holidays. Christmas and Easter are the busiest. Hurricane season is June to November.

Common questions

How many days do I need for Disney World?

At least one day per park (four parks); three or four days covers the highlights. Add Universal for two to three more days.

Disney or Universal?

Disney for younger children, classic rides and shows; Universal for thrill rides and Harry Potter. Many families do both.

What is Lightning Lane?

Disney's paid line-skipping system. Lightning Lane Multi Pass reserves several rides; Single Pass buys individual top rides. Book from the My Disney Experience app.

Is Epic Universe worth it?

Yes for Harry Potter and Nintendo fans: it has some of the most advanced rides in the world. It needs a full day.

When is the best time to go?

Mid-January to early March and early November to mid-December (avoiding Thanksgiving) have shorter lines and good weather.

Do I need a car?

Not if you stay at Disney and use its free transport, or at Universal. Otherwise, a car is more practical than taxis.

Can I see a rocket launch?

Often: launches from Cape Canaveral happen frequently. Check the schedules from SpaceX and the Kennedy Space Center.

Is Orlando good for adults without children?

Yes: thrill rides, EPCOT's food and drink, nightlife at Disney Springs and CityWalk, and the Space Center.

How hot is Orlando in summer?

About 32-34°C with high humidity and daily afternoon storms. Plan breaks, drink water and use sunscreen.

Can I see manatees?

Yes, in winter (November to March) at Blue Spring State Park, about 45 minutes north, when they gather in the warm spring water.
