Is Orlando expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer
Orlando is expensive mainly because of theme park tickets: hotels and food are cheaper than in big US cities, but a day at Disney or Universal costs far more than most city sightseeing. A budget day is about US$250 per person, mid-range about US$445, with park tickets (about US$130–190 a day in the data) the largest single cost.

Where the money goes
Park tickets dominate the budget, with date-based pricing that is highest at Christmas, Easter and in summer. Extras such as Lightning Lane or Express passes, park parking and food inside the parks add up quickly. Hotels are moderate off-site, but on-site resorts cost more in exchange for transport and early entry. A rental car is useful unless you stay at Disney, and taxes and resort fees appear on top of quoted prices.
When it is cheaper
January to early March (outside holidays) and late August to mid-November (outside Halloween and Thanksgiving weeks) usually have lower ticket and hotel prices.
How to spend less
- Buy multi-day tickets, which cost less per day than single-day tickets.
- Stay on International Drive or in Kissimmee and drive to the parks.
- Bring a refillable bottle; parks give free cups of water at quick-service counters.
- Eat a big breakfast outside the park and snack inside.
- Visit on weekdays and in low-season months for cheaper date-based tickets.
- Skip paid line-skipping passes on low-crowd days.
