Is Warsaw expensive? What things really cost in 2026

Short answer

No, Warsaw is good value: noticeably cheaper than Western European capitals such as Berlin, Vienna or Paris, though pricier than many Polish cities. A budget day is about zł 255 per person, mid-range about zł 525 and comfort about zł 1,150. Hotels and museum tickets take most of the money; public transport and milk-bar meals are very cheap.

Where the money goes

Accommodation is the largest share, with mid-range doubles near the Old Town at about zł 400-650. The excellent museums each cost about zł 25-50, so a full sightseeing day adds up. Food and transport are where Warsaw is cheap: milk bars, pierogi shops and markets cost little, and a day ticket covers all trams, buses and the metro.

When it is cheaper

Hotels are usually cheapest from November to March, outside Christmas and New Year, often noticeably below summer rates. Weekends can be cheaper than weekdays at business hotels in the centre.
