Is Thassos expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer
Thassos is one of the cheaper Greek islands, clearly below the Cyclades and aimed at families from Greece and the Balkans. A budget traveller needs about €60 a day, mid-range about €125 and comfort about €250 per person, assuming a shared car. Rooms and car hire take most of the money; food and the short ferry are inexpensive.

Where the money goes
Accommodation is the largest cost, from €40–75 in Limenas to €130–280 at beach hotels around Limenas or Golden Beach, plus Greece's per-room, per-night climate resilience fee. A car is the easiest way to see the island and adds about €30–55 a day in summer. Food is good value, and most sights, from the ancient agora to Aliki and Giola, are free or cost a few euros.
When it is cheaper
June and September are cheaper than mid-July to late August, when Greek and Balkan visitors fill the island. Most hotels close from late October to April.
How to spend less
- Take the short Keramoti–Limenas ferry, the cheapest and most frequent crossing.
- Walk on as a foot passenger and rent a car on the island if you only need it for a few days.
- Stay in Limenas for the cheapest rooms and the bus hub.
- Eat in Theologos and Panagia, where spit-roast lamb and goat are good value.
- Bring a towel to Pefkari, Marble Beach or Psili Ammos instead of renting sunbeds.
- Buy honey, throumba olives and spoon sweets in the villages rather than in resort shops.
