Is Spetses expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer
Spetses is one of the pricier Saronic islands, more expensive than Aegina or Poros and in a similar bracket to Hydra, mostly because it is a weekend favourite of Athenians and yacht owners. A realistic budget day is about €80 per person, mid-range about €170 and comfort about €355, and the money goes mainly on rooms, waterfront dinners, scooters and water taxis.

Where the money goes
Accommodation takes the biggest share: rooms in Dapia and the Old Harbour cost €100–220 a night in season, and the Poseidonion or a restored captain's house runs €250–550. Eating out is the next cost, with taverna meals around €20–35 per person and more at the Old Harbour on summer weekends. Because private cars are restricted in town, getting around means scooter or e-bike rental (about €20–35 a day) and water taxis at fixed fares, which add up if you use them several times a day. Sights are cheap: the museums cost a few euros and the beaches are free. Greece also charges a per-room, per-night climate resilience fee, higher from April to October.
When it is cheaper
May, June and late September are cheaper than July and August, and weekdays are noticeably cheaper and quieter than weekends all year. Many hotels close from November to March, so off-season choice is limited.
How to spend less
- Stay in Kounoupitsa or the back streets of Dapia (about €60–100 a night) rather than on the waterfront.
- Visit on weekdays: weekends fill with Athenians and prices and crowds rise.
- Use the summer bus from Dapia to Agii Anargyri and Ligoneri instead of a water taxi.
- Rent a scooter or e-bike for one day to do the 25 km round-island road and see several beaches in one go.
- Eat souvlaki or gyros behind Dapia (about €4 a pitta) and save the Old Harbour tavernas for one dinner.
- If driving from Athens, park at Kosta and cross by small ferry or water taxi; cars are not useful on the island.
