Short answer
May, June and September are the best months, with highs of about 24–29°C, warm sea and calmer weekends. July and August are hot (around 33–34°C), busy with Athenians and yachts and the most expensive, and many hotels close from November to March.

Spring (Mar–May)
March is cool, around 16°C, and quiet with many places closed; April reaches about 20°C and May about 24°C, good for walking and early swims.
Summer (Jun–Aug)
June is excellent at about 29°C; July and August are the hottest months at 33–34°C with almost no rain, peak prices and full weekends.
Autumn (Sep–Nov)
September is still about 28°C with a warm sea and the Armata festival; October is about 24°C and quieter, and by November many places close.
Winter (Dec–Feb)
Mild but quiet, around 15–17°C by day with the most rainy days (about 7–8 in December and January); most hotels are closed.
Events worth planning around

When to avoid
Avoid July and August if you dislike crowds and high prices, especially weekends and mid-August. Avoid November to March if you want beaches and a choice of hotels, as many close.
