Is Skopelos expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer
Skopelos is moderately priced for a Greek island — generally cheaper than Mykonos or Santorini and a little quieter than neighbouring Skiathos — but July and August prices rise sharply. Expect about €75 a day per person on a tight budget, about €155 mid-range and €325 or more for comfort. Rooms, a car or scooter and boat trips take most of the money.

Where the money goes
Accommodation is the biggest cost, from €50–90 for a family-run room to €90–170 for a hotel in town and €160–350 for hillside hotels with pools, at the top of the range in August. Transport comes next: the bus is cheap but limited, so many visitors rent a car or scooter. Food is good value, at about €18–30 per person in a taverna, though fish priced by the kilo can make a dinner much dearer. Getting there — a flight to Skiathos or a ferry from Volos or Agios Konstantinos — adds to the total, and Greece charges a per-room, per-night climate resilience fee, higher from April to October.
When it is cheaper
Late May, June and September are usually noticeably cheaper than July and August for rooms and car hire. From November to April many hotels and tavernas close, so there are fewer options even if prices are low.
How to spend less
- Visit in late May, June or September for lower room rates and warm sea.
- Use the island bus along the main road to the south-coast beaches instead of renting a car every day.
- Rent a car or scooter for just one or two days for Glossa, Agios Ioannis and the monasteries.
- Ask the price per kilo and the weight before ordering fish.
- Buy tyropita from a bakery for a cheap, filling lunch.
- Check current ferry timetables and book ahead in August; fares vary by route and boat type.
