Is Naxos expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer
Naxos is one of the best-value islands in the Cyclades, much cheaper than Mykonos or Santorini, with its own farms supplying cheese, potatoes and meat. A budget day is about €65 per person, mid-range about €145, and the money goes mainly on summer rooms, car or scooter rental and ferries.

Where the money goes
Accommodation is the biggest cost in July and August, especially on the beaches south of Chora. A car or scooter is the next expense if you explore the mountain villages and the north. Ferries from Piraeus and to the Small Cyclades add a significant amount. Food is good value thanks to local produce, and many beaches are free. Greece also adds a per-room climate resilience fee each night, highest from April to October.
When it is cheaper
May, June and late September to October are noticeably cheaper than July–August; from November to April many beach hotels close, but Chora has year-round rooms at low prices.
How to spend less
- Stay in Chora's new town and take KTEL buses to the beaches.
- Rent a car only for one or two days for the mountain villages.
- Eat at tavernas in the villages, such as Halki or Apiranthos, where prices are lower.
- Buy Naxos cheese (graviera, arseniko) and bread for beach picnics.
- Book ferries early in summer for the cheaper conventional boats.
- Choose free public beaches over sunbed rentals.
