Is Kuwait expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer
Kuwait is moderately expensive: a budget day costs about KD 26 (roughly US$85) per person and a mid-range day about KD 52, in line with Bahrain or Qatar and a little cheaper than Dubai for hotels. Accommodation and taxis are the main costs; museums are cheap, souq food is inexpensive and there is no alcohol to spend money on.

Where the money goes
Hotels take the largest share: older city-centre hotels near the souq cost KD 20-35 a double, Salmiya and Sharq business hotels KD 30-60 and the Gulf Street beach resorts KD 70-160. Because Kuwait is built for cars, taxis and ride-hailing (KD 2-4 a ride) add up over a day. Sights are cheap: the Grand Mosque tours are free, and the Sheikh Abdullah Al Salem Cultural Centre and Kuwait Towers cost only a few dinars.
When it is cheaper
Hotel rates are usually lowest in the extreme heat from June to September, when few leisure visitors come; the cooler November-March season and the February national holidays are busier and pricier.
