Is Jaipur expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer
Jaipur is inexpensive for food and local transport, but monument fees for foreigners, drivers and palace hotels can push costs up. A budget traveller needs about ₹2,000 (roughly €20) a day, mid-range about ₹6,400 and comfort about ₹25,000 per person. It is similar to Delhi and Agra for most costs, with a very wide range at the top end.

Where the money goes
Accommodation has the widest range, from ₹1,000–2,500 in guesthouses near the Pink City to ₹20,000–80,000 or more in palace hotels. Monuments charge foreigners much more than Indian citizens, and the City Palace is outside the composite ticket. A car with driver or app taxis to Amber Fort, Nahargarh and Galta Ji add up. Street food and thalis are cheap.
When it is cheaper
Room prices are lowest from April to September, during the hot season and the monsoon. October to March, especially around Diwali, New Year and the Literature Festival in January, is the most expensive.
How to spend less
- Buy the composite ticket if you visit Amber Fort and two or three other monuments.
- Use Uber or Ola instead of haggling with auto-rickshaws.
- Tell drivers clearly you do not want shopping stops, which add commission to prices.
- Eat at Masala Chowk to try several well-known snack shops cheaply.
- Have a drink for the view at a Hawa Mahal rooftop, but eat at a thali restaurant nearby.
- Carry cash: UPI usually does not work with foreign cards.
