Is Elafonisos expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer
Elafonisos is moderately priced in June and September but expensive in August, when room rates can be about 50% higher and demand far outstrips the small number of beds. A budget day is about €65 per person, mid-range about €125 and comfort about €255; the money goes on rooms, the car and fish by the kilo.

Where the money goes
Rooms are by far the biggest cost: the island has only one village, so beds are scarce in July and August and prices rise sharply. Transport is next, because you need a car to reach this corner of the Peloponnese and for the mainland day trips to Pavlopetri, Kastania and Monemvasia. Sights cost little: Simos is free, and Monemvasia's lower town has free entry. Fish and lobster dishes are what push a dinner bill up. Greece also adds a per-room, per-night climate resilience fee, higher from April to October.
When it is cheaper
June and September are noticeably cheaper than August, and the weeks around 15 August are the most expensive of the year. In May and October prices are lower again, but some tavernas are closed.
How to spend less
- Stay on the mainland in Neapoli or Agios Nikolaos and cross for the day in August.
- Leave the car at Pounta in peak season and use the summer bus or a scooter on the island.
- Ask the price of fish and lobster before it is cooked.
- Bring an umbrella to Simos instead of paying for sunbeds all day.
- Buy picnic food in the village; there is little at Sarakiniko.
- Visit in June or September, when rooms are cheaper and the ferry queue is short.
