Is Bogota expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer
Bogota is affordable by European or North American standards, though it is one of the pricier cities in Colombia, especially in the north around Zona T and Parque 93. A budget traveller can manage on about COP 130,000 (roughly €29) per person a day sharing a room, mid-range about COP 335,000 and comfort about COP 800,000. Museums are cheap or free, and ride-hailing apps are inexpensive.

Where the money goes
Accommodation and restaurant dinners are the main costs, especially in the north, where hotels and tasting menus approach European prices. Daytime eating is cheap: a corrientazo set lunch, bakeries and market food keep food spending to about COP 50,000-80,000 a day on a budget. Sights are mostly inexpensive, with the Salt Cathedral at Zipaquira the main exception.
When it is cheaper
Prices in Bogota change little through the year; hotels can be slightly cheaper over Christmas and Easter weeks, when business travel stops and many locals leave the city, but check, as some places raise rates for holiday visitors.
How to spend less
- Eat the corrientazo (set lunch with soup, main and juice), the best-value meal in the city.
- Visit the Gold Museum on Sunday for free, or the Botero Museum, which is always free.
- Ride Monserrate on Sunday, when the cable car and funicular are cheaper.
- Use Uber, Cabify, DiDi or a taxi app rather than street taxis: cheaper, metered and safer.
- Join a tip-based graffiti or walking tour in La Candelaria.
- Ask the price of exotic fruit per unit before vendors cut anything at Paloquemao or in La Candelaria.
