Is Bahrain expensive? What things really cost in 2026
Short answer
Bahrain is moderately priced for the Gulf: cheaper than Dubai or Doha for hotels and eating out, but more expensive than most of the wider Middle East. A budget day is about BD 24 per person, mid-range about BD 51 and comfort about BD 128. Rooms and alcohol are the big costs; sights and street food are cheap.

Where the money goes
Accommodation takes the largest share: older hotels near the Manama Souq start around BD 20-35 a double, mid-range hotels in Juffair, Seef and Adliya run BD 35-65, and five-star towers or beach resorts BD 90-220, plus 10% VAT and a small tourism levy. Public transport is limited, so taxis, Careem/Uber or a hire car add a steady daily cost. Alcohol, only in hotels and licensed venues, is expensive. Museums and heritage sites, on the other hand, cost a dinar or two or nothing at all.
When it is cheaper
Hotel prices are lowest in the hot months from June to September, often noticeably below winter rates. They jump, sometimes doubling, around the Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend in spring.
How to spend less
- Eat breakfast and lunch in the souq cafés and Indian and Pakistani canteens, where meals cost BD 1-3.
- Most heritage sites, including Qal'at al-Bahrain and the Pearling Path, are free or about BD 1.
- Compare Careem and Uber with taxis; app fares are usually clearer.
- Hire a car for just the day you visit A'ali, the Tree of Life and Sakhir, where buses do not go.
- Avoid the Formula 1 weekend unless you are going to the race.
- Drink tea and fresh juice rather than hotel-bar alcohol, which is heavily marked up.
