Where to sleep for less
Budget travellers stay in family-run guesthouses in the back streets of Puerto Ayora or in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, with doubles about US$50-90 and simple fans or air conditioning.
Getting around cheaply
Move between islands by public speedboat (about US$30-35, usually 7:00 and 15:00). In town, walk or take a US$1.50-3 taxi. From Baltra airport, the bus and Itabaca Channel ferry are cheaper than a taxi to Puerto Ayora.

More ways to save
- Pick one or two top tours (Kicker Rock, a day trip to Isabela or a bay tour) rather than many.
- Fly into one island and out of another to avoid a backtracking ferry.
- Use water taxis and walk rather than paying for organised transfers.
- Buy snacks and water at local shops instead of tourist cafes.
- Ask your guesthouse to book tours; hosts often get better rates.
- Travel in May-June or September-November for easier last-minute deals.
