Walk the centre and use Grab or Bolt for temples (about ฿80–200 a ride). Local buses from the old bus station serve the White Temple, Mae Sai and Chiang Saen. Scooters cost about ฿200–300 a day if you are licensed. Buses from Chiang Mai take about 3–3.5 hours.
