Season by season
Spring (Mar–May)
March is still cool (about 11°C) and the wettest month, with about 13 rainy days; by May highs reach about 23°C and the city is green.
Summer (Jun–Aug)
June is about 29°C with frequent showers; July and August reach about 31–33°C. The city is hot, but the mountains at Kazbegi are at their best.
Autumn (Sep–Nov)
September (about 26°C) and October (about 19°C) are ideal, with harvest season in the wine regions; November cools to about 14°C.
Winter (Dec–Feb)
Highs of about 7–9°C and lows near freezing; the Military Road to Kazbegi can close in snow, but the city is quiet and the baths are warm.
Events worth planning around
- Rtveli, the grape harvest in Kakheti and other wine regions (September–October)
- Tbilisoba, the city festival (October; check dates for the year)
- Orthodox Christmas (7 January) and Easter, with services in the city's churches
When to avoid
Avoid July and August if you dislike heat in the city. From November to April, plan Kazbegi trips with care, as the road over the Jvari Pass can close in snow.
