Best time to visit Slovakia: month by month
Short answer
June to September is best for hiking, with lowland highs of about 22–28°C and all High Tatras trails open from mid-June. September is ideal, with settled weather and fewer crowds; December to March is ski season and Christmas-market time.

Spring (Mar–May)
Highs rise from 11°C in March to 20°C in May. High Tatras trails remain closed above the huts until mid-June; good for Bratislava and towns.
Summer (Jun–Aug)
Warm, with highs of 26–28°C and lows of 16–18°C in the lowlands, cooler in the mountains, and 8–9 rainy days a month. Peak hiking season.
Autumn (Sep–Nov)
September is about 22°C and settled; October cools to 17°C with autumn colours; November drops to 9°C and high trails close.
Winter (Dec–Feb)
Cold, with highs of 5–8°C and lows around -1 to 0°C in the lowlands, colder and snowy in the mountains. Skiing at Jasná and Štrbské Pleso.

When to avoid
If you plan high Tatras hikes, avoid November to mid-June, when trails above the huts are closed. August is the busiest month in the mountains.
