Best time to visit Maui: month by month
Short answer
April to May and September to November offer the best balance of good weather, fewer visitors and lower prices, with coastal highs of about 28–30°C. December to April is humpback whale season and peak demand; the south coast (Kihei, Wailea) stays sunny all year, while the north and east, including Hana and Upcountry, get much more rain.

Season by season
Spring (Mar–May)
Warm on the coast, around 27–29°C. Whales are still around until April; inland and on the windward side it is cooler and wetter, with highs around 17–18°C at Upcountry elevations.
Summer (Jun–Aug)
Driest and warmest on the coast, around 29–31°C, with calm seas on the south and west shores. Upcountry highs are about 19–20°C.
Autumn (Sep–Nov)
Still warm and sunny on the leeward coast, with fewer visitors. Rain increases on the windward side from October.
Winter (Dec–Feb)
Coastal highs around 26–27°C, cooler at altitude (about 16–17°C Upcountry) and near freezing at the Haleakala summit before dawn. Big surf on north shores and the most rain in Hana.

When to avoid
Avoid late December to early January and spring break if you want lower prices and fewer crowds. Winter surf makes some north- and west-facing beaches dangerous for swimming.
