Where to sleep for less

Budget travellers stay in self-catering condos in Kihei, across the road from the beaches, at about US$220–350 a night (around US$130 per person sharing). A few hostels in Wailuku and Kahului offer dorm beds, and camping is possible at some state and national park sites with permits.

Getting around cheaply

A shared rental car is the cheapest practical option. The Maui Bus runs limited routes for about US$2 a ride, useful only between towns. From Kahului airport, Kihei is about 30 minutes by car.
