Best time to visit Lombok: month by month
Short answer
May to September is the best time: the dry season, with highs of about 30–31°C, far fewer rainy days (as few as 7 in July) and the Rinjani trails open. The wet season from November to March brings frequent afternoon rain (around 25–28 rainy days a month), greener rice fields and lower prices, but Rinjani is usually closed.

Season by season
Spring (Mar–May)
The end of the wet season: March still has about 26 rainy days, falling to 21 in April and 12 in May, with highs around 29–31°C and very green landscapes.
Summer (Jun–Aug)
Dry season and the most popular time: highs about 30–31°C, few rainy days, Rinjani open; July and August are the busiest on the Gilis, and the strait to Bali can be rough.
Autumn (Sep–Nov)
September is still dry and excellent; October (about 32°C) gets wetter, and by November the rains return with about 28 rainy days.
Winter (Dec–Feb)
Wet season: about 29–30°C with heavy afternoon rain on most days; quiet and cheaper, but Rinjani usually closes roughly January to March.
Events worth planning around
- Bau Nyale, the Sasak sea-worm festival on the south coast around Kuta (around February or March, set by the traditional calendar)
- Indonesian Independence Day (17 August)
- Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, when some warungs close during the day (dates move about 11 days earlier each year)
- MotoGP race at the Mandalika circuit near Kuta (dates vary; check the calendar)
When to avoid
Avoid January to March if you want to trek Rinjani or need reliable sunshine. Avoid July and August if you dislike crowds and higher prices on the Gilis, and check for MotoGP dates if staying near Kuta, when rooms fill up.
