Best time to visit Halkidiki: month by month
Short answer
June and September are the best months, with sea temperatures around 23–25°C, fewer people and lower prices than mid-summer. July and August are hot (often low 30s °C) and very busy, especially at weekends; many hotels open only from May to October.

Spring (Mar–May)
Mild and green, warming to the mid-20s °C by late May; the sea is still cool for most swimmers until June and many hotels open in May.
Summer (Jun–Aug)
Hot and dry, typically around 30°C or more in July–August, with a warm sea; peak season, especially on August weekends and around 15 August.
Autumn (Sep–Nov)
September is excellent, with a warm sea and quieter beaches; October is mild but many places close by the end of the month.
Winter (Dec–Feb)
Cool and quiet, typically around 10–13°C by day, with most hotels and beach bars closed.
Events worth planning around
- Greek Orthodox Easter in the villages (March, April or May, dates vary)
- Feast of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, 15 August, with village festivals (panigyria)
- Kassandra Festival with summer concerts and theatre in Siviri and Afytos (July–August; check the programme)
When to avoid
Mid-July to the end of August is crowded, especially at weekends and around 15 August, with heavy traffic on Kassandra's main road. From November to April most of the resort infrastructure is closed.
