Short answer
April to June and September to October are the best months, with highs of about 18–29°C and few rainy days. July and August are hot (about 31–33°C), and winters are cool and grey at about 8–10°C; the khazri wind can blow in any season.

Spring (Mar–May)
Highs rise from about 11°C in March to 22°C in May, with 3–7 rainy days a month. Novruz, the spring new year, is celebrated in March.
Summer (Jun–Aug)
Hot and dry: highs of about 29–33°C and only 1–2 rainy days. Good for the seafront in the evening, tiring for midday sightseeing.
Autumn (Sep–Nov)
September is about 26°C and October 20°C, both pleasant; November cools to about 15°C.
Winter (Dec–Feb)
Cool and often grey, with highs of about 8–10°C and lows near 3°C; few visitors and lower hotel prices.
Events worth planning around
- Novruz, the spring new year, with bonfires, wheat sprouts and sweets (around 20–21 March)
- Azerbaijan Formula 1 Grand Prix on the city street circuit (usually September in recent years; check the dates)
When to avoid
Avoid the Formula 1 weekend unless you are going for the race, as hotel prices jump and roads close. Mid-summer is hot for sightseeing, and winter is grey and windy.
