Best time to visit Argentina: month by month
Short answer
October to April is the best time for a full Buenos Aires–Iguazú–Patagonia trip, because Patagonia is only fully open in those months. Buenos Aires is at its best in October–November and March–April, with highs of about 21–25°C; January (29°C) is hot and half the city goes to the coast. The trade-off is that Patagonia is busiest and dearest in January–February.

Season by season
Spring (Sep–Nov)
Buenos Aires warms from about 18°C in September to 25°C in November with jacarandas in bloom; Patagonia opens up from October, still windy and cool.
Summer (Dec–Feb)
Buenos Aires is hot at 27–29°C with summer storms; Patagonia has its warmest weather (highs around 18–22°C) and the longest days, along with the most visitors.
Autumn (Mar–May)
Pleasant in Buenos Aires at 17–25°C; Patagonia turns red and gold in April, and Iguazú becomes more comfortable than in summer.
Winter (Jun–Aug)
Buenos Aires is cool at about 14–16°C by day and 8°C at night; Iguazú is mild and dry, while much of southern Patagonia closes and Bariloche becomes a ski resort.
Events worth planning around
- Carnival in Gualeguaychú and the north-west (February or early March, before Lent)
- Vendimia, Mendoza's grape harvest festival (late February to early March)
- Buenos Aires Tango Festival and World Championship (August)
- Fiesta Nacional de la Nieve and the ski season in Bariloche (July–August)
When to avoid
Avoid June to September for Patagonian hiking, when many trails, hotels and boat trips around El Chaltén and El Calafate close. Late January is the hottest and busiest time for both Buenos Aires and the coast, and July school holidays fill Iguazú and Bariloche.

Common questions
What is the best month to visit Argentina?
November or March for a trip combining Buenos Aires, Iguazú and Patagonia: the weather is good everywhere and crowds are smaller than in January–February.
Can I visit Patagonia in winter?
Northern Patagonia, especially Bariloche, works well for skiing in July–August. Southern Patagonia around El Chaltén and El Calafate is cold and many hotels and trips close from about May to September, although the Perito Moreno glacier can still be visited.
When is Iguazú best?
March to May and August to November, when it is mild and the water is steady. December to February has the most water but heat of 30–32°C and heavy crowds.
