Season by season
Spring (Mar–May)
March is still quiet with some places closed; by May highs are in the low 20s°C, hotels and ferries are open and the hiking is ideal.
Summer (Jun–Aug)
June is excellent; July and August are hot (often near 30°C), the sea is warm, and buses, beaches and prices are at their peak.
Autumn (Sep–Nov)
September is warm with a sea still around summer temperatures and fewer crowds; ferries thin out in late October and many hotels close in November.
Winter (Dec–Feb)
Mild and quiet, roughly in the low teens°C by day, with rain; some villages almost close, but the views and Amalfi's Christmas atmosphere are without crowds.
Events worth planning around
- Ravello Festival of music, in the gardens of Villa Rufolo (summer, roughly July to September)
- Feast of Sant'Andrea, Amalfi's patron saint (27 June and 30 November)
- Feast of the Assumption in Positano, with processions and fireworks (15 August)
When to avoid
Avoid August if you dislike crowds and high prices, especially around Ferragosto (15 August). Avoid November to March if you want beaches and frequent ferries, as many services stop.
