Common questions
Is Jaipur or Udaipur cheaper?
Jaipur, slightly. Our mid-range estimate is about 6,400 rupees per person per day in Jaipur against about 7,000 in Udaipur. Udaipur's lakeside and heritage hotels push prices up. Street food and local restaurants are cheap in both, and hiring a driver for a day is good value.
When is the best time to visit?
November to February for both. Days are dry and around 20 to 22°C in January, with cool nights. Avoid April to June: our sheet gives about 38°C in Jaipur in May and 36°C in Udaipur in April. The monsoon, roughly July to September, fills Udaipur's lakes but brings humidity.
Which is better for a honeymoon?
Udaipur. Its lakes, palace hotels, boat rides on Lake Pichola and rooftop dinners make it the more romantic choice, and the pace is slower. Jaipur has luxury palace hotels too, but the city is busier and more about sightseeing and shopping.
How do I get between Jaipur and Udaipur?
Flights take about 1 hour and are the quickest option. Trains take roughly 6 to 7 hours. By road with a car and driver it is about 6 to 7 hours, and you can stop at Chittorgarh or Pushkar on the way. Check current timetables and book trains early in winter.
