Corfu or Santorini? An honest comparison
The short answer
Pick Santorini for the caldera views, Oia sunsets and volcanic wine country, ideally for three or four nights; pick Corfu for a longer, greener and much cheaper holiday with real beaches and a Venetian old town. Corfu is far cheaper on mid-range numbers (€175 vs €260 per person per day). Santorini is a spectacle; Corfu is a place to settle in.
Corfu: suits families, couples and older travellers who want a week of beaches, greenery and history at a fair price.
Santorini: suits couples, honeymooners and photographers who want caldera views, sunsets and wine tasting.

Common questions
Is Corfu or Santorini cheaper?
Corfu, by a lot. Mid-range costs are about €175 per person per day in Corfu against €260 in Santorini. Caldera-view hotels in Oia, Fira and Imerovigli are especially expensive. Staying in Kamari, Perissa or inland villages lowers costs in Santorini, but it still rarely matches Corfu's prices.
How do I get from Corfu to Santorini?
There's no direct ferry, as the islands are on opposite sides of Greece. The usual way is to fly via Athens: about an hour to Athens, then around 45 minutes to Santorini, plus connection time. You can also ferry from Piraeus to Santorini, taking roughly 5–8 hours. Check current timetables.
Which island has better beaches?
Corfu, clearly. It has many sandy and pebbly bays with clear water and green backdrops. Santorini's beaches are volcanic black or red sand, such as Perissa, Kamari and Red Beach, which are dramatic but get very hot underfoot. People visit Santorini for the views, not the beaches.
How many days do I need on each?
Three or four nights is enough for Santorini: the caldera, Oia, Akrotiri, a winery and a boat trip. Corfu deserves at least a week to see the Old Town, the west coast and the north without rushing. Many travellers combine a long Corfu stay with a short Santorini finish.
