Common questions
Is Corfu or Rhodes cheaper?
They're practically level on mid-range numbers: about €170 per person per day in Rhodes and €175 in Corfu. Rhodes has a very large supply of rooms and package hotels, which keeps prices competitive outside August. Lindos is the expensive exception. Corfu's prices climb in the Old Town and on the northeast coast in high season.
How do I get from Corfu to Rhodes?
There's no direct ferry, since the islands are at opposite ends of Greece. Most people fly via Athens, about an hour per leg plus connection time. Some seasonal direct flights may operate in summer. Check current timetables before planning, and allow most of a day for the transfer.
Which island is better for beaches?
Rhodes has longer sandy beaches, especially on the east coast, such as Tsambika and Lindos bay, and is warmer for longer. Corfu has more dramatic bays, especially around Paleokastritsa, with green cliffs and clear water, but many are smaller and pebbly.
Which is better for history?
Both are strong. Rhodes has a medieval walled city built by the Knights of St John, and the ancient acropolis at Lindos. Corfu's UNESCO Old Town shows Venetian, French and British influence, with two fortresses and the Achilleion palace. Choose Rhodes for medieval history, Corfu for its elegant later architecture.
