How do I get from Brasov to Sofia?

There is no direct train. Most people go via Bucharest: a train from Brasov to Bucharest takes about 2 h 30 to 3 hours, then a bus to Sofia takes around 6 to 7 hours, crossing the Danube at Giurgiu–Ruse. Driving takes roughly 7 hours. Check current timetables and allow a full travel day.

Not for the old town, which is compact and walkable. For Bran Castle and Râșnov Fortress there are local buses and many organised tours, but a car makes it easier to combine them in one day and to reach mountain trailheads. In Sofia a car is not needed; the metro and trams cover the city.
