Best time to visit Sofia: month by month
Short answer
May to June and September to October are the best months, with highs of about 19–24°C and Vitosha green or golden. July and August are warm (about 29°C) but cooler than the coast and ideal for high hikes. Winter is cold, often below 0°C at night with snow, which brings skiing on Vitosha and in Bansko.

Spring (Mar–May)
Highs rise from about 10°C in March to 21°C in May, with 9–13 rainy days; parks bloom and martenitsi are worn from 1 March.
Summer (Jun–Aug)
Warm, with highs of 24–29°C and lows of 14–17°C; July is dry, and it is the best season for hiking on Vitosha and Rila.
Autumn (Sep–Nov)
Highs fall from about 24°C in September to 12°C in November; September and October are dry and pleasant.
Winter (Dec–Feb)
Cold, with highs of 6–9°C and lows around -2–0°C; snow, skiing nearby and occasional smog.
