Tips

Common questions

How long is the train from Venice to Verona?

High-speed Frecciarossa and Italo trains take about 1 h 10 from Venezia Santa Lucia to Verona Porta Nuova. Regional trains are slower, about 1 h 25 to 2 h, as they stop at more stations, but cost less and need no booking. Between them there are trains most of the day, roughly every 30 minutes at busy times.

What is the cheapest way from Venice to Verona?

The regional train, at about €10–12 one way, is the cheapest option for a single traveller and the price does not change with demand. Early-booked Frecciarossa or Italo fares can come close and save time. Driving costs fuel and around €10 in tolls plus parking, and Venice car parks are expensive.

Can I do a day trip from Venice to Verona?

Yes. It is one of the easiest day trips from Venice. Leave mid-morning, spend the day around the Arena, Juliet's house area, Piazza delle Erbe and the Adige river, and return in the evening. Trains run until late. You can also stop in Vicenza or Padua on the same line.

Do I need to book the train in advance?

Not for regional trains, which have fixed fares and no seat reservations — buy a ticket on the day and validate it if it is a paper ticket. High-speed trains require a reserved seat and cost more closer to departure, so book those ahead to get the lower fares, particularly at weekends and in summer.
