How to get from Serifos to Syros

There is no frequent direct ferry: Serifos is on the Western Cyclades line and Syros on the central one. On some summer days a boat links them (about 2–3 h); otherwise you change at Piraeus or another island, which can take most of a day. Check current timetables.

Tips

Common questions

Is there a direct ferry from Serifos to Syros?

Only on some days in summer, and not every year. Serifos lies on the Western Cyclades line from Piraeus, while Syros is on the central line, so direct crossings are rare. When available, they take roughly 2–3 hours. Otherwise you travel via Piraeus or another island. Check current timetables before planning.

How long does it take via Piraeus?

Serifos to Piraeus takes about 2–4 hours and Piraeus to Syros about 2–4 hours, plus time waiting in port. Depending on schedules, this can mean most of a day or an overnight stop in Athens. It is reliable but slow, and costs more than a direct crossing.

Can I fly?

Serifos has no airport. Syros has a small airport with flights to Athens, but getting there from Serifos still requires a ferry first. Flying offers no advantage on this route, so the ferry, direct or with a change, is the realistic choice.

Do I need to book ahead?

When a direct summer boat exists, book early, because there are only a few. For a connection via Piraeus, book both legs together if possible and allow a wide margin. Ferries outside July and August are less crowded, but winter timetables have fewer options.
